‘Let’s Shine’ was conceived in 1998 to give people living with a disability an opportunity to perform on stage, singing, dancing and acting with the embellishments of costumes, lighting, sound, scenery and props, in a safe supportive environment. The first show had the full support of the ALOTCo committee. When the final curtain fell, it was realised that the production had resulted in a huge personal reward for all involved.
The second show was ‘Let’s Shine Again’ in 2009, then ‘Let’s Shine Forever’ in 2014, which won the City of Albany Australia Day Event of the Year. In 2017 we produced ‘Let’s Shine Together’ and in 2019 ‘Lets Shine Brightly’.
The next show ‘Lets Shine Always’ is planned for late 2025 delayed due accessible upgrades in entrance ramp, audience and cast toilets, and backstage new gradient ramp.
Fortunately, there have been some collaborative opportunities to perform with Breaksea in 2021 with a musical ‘View from the Magpies Nest’. which was written by Naomi Lake (supported by local author Dianne Wolfer) and choreographed Emily O’Brien (supported by local dancer Rita Bush) and music by local John Brain. Both Naomi and Emily are part of the all-abilities dancers. Past member Matt Ward is the Director of Breaksea, Let’s Shine are appreciative of the opportunity to perform in his inclusive production.
